A CASE OF PARADUODENAL HERNIA - A RARE CASE REPORT

SADAGOPAN M MADASAMY

Abstract

Paraduodenal hernia, (a rare congenital anomaly which arises from an error of rotation of the midgut) is the most common type of intra abdominal hernia. There are three variants, right and left paraduodenal hernia and transverse mesocolic hernia , the right being less common and  transverse mesocolic hernia being rare. We report a case of left paraduodenal hernia in 25 year old male who presented as acute abdomen following blunt injury . The diagnosis of Paraduodenal hernia was made incidentally at laparotomy, Contents of hernia sac was reduced, redundant sac was fixed to the posterior abdominal wall and the neck closed. Also two perforations were noted in jejunum which was closed. This case is presented for its rarity and to convey the message that it is difficult to diagnose a paraduodenal hernia                   preoperatively and most often diagnosed peroperatively.
