SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA EYELID IN A CHILD WITH OCULOCUTANEOUS ALBINISM- A CASE REPORT.

SATHISH KUMAAR T M

Abstract

We report a case of actinic keratoses transforming into squamous cell carcinoma in a child with albinism. A   9-year-old girl, a known case of oculocutaneous albinism since birth, presented with a rapidly growing mass in right lower eyelid near medial canthus of 2 weeks duration. It started as an erythematous papular lesion which transformed into a scaly cutaneous lesion. She had actinic keratoses in the face and other parts of the body. Incisional biopsy from the lesion showed squamous cell carcinoma in situ. Excision of the mass revealed squamous cell carcinoma . Eyelid           reconstruction was done using cheek rotational flap. Patients with albinism are at increased risk of developing skin               malignancies and hence regular examination and follow up are essential from an early age to reduce morbidity and             mortality.
