POOVIZHI K

Abstract

Abdominal pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy with very high morbidity and mortality for both the mother and the fetus. Here we report the case of 25-year-old primigravida referred to the obstetrics department at 13 weeks gestation as case of right adenexal pregnancy with empty uterus on routine scan. Ultrasound examination was done that showed single live fetus in pouch of Douglas with empty uterus and patient was diagnosed to have abdominal pregnancy. Emergency laparotomy was done that showed intact amniotic sac with live fetus and placenta attached to retroperitoneum in the Pouch of Douglas the same removed carefully and completely and the case was diagnosed as secondary abdominal pregnancy according to Friedrich and Rankins modification of the Studdifords criteria.
