ANATOMICAL RECONSTRUCTION OF THE DISTAL RADIO ULNAR JOINT USING PALMARIS LONGUS TENDON GRAFT - A CASE REPORT

Abstract


Patients with symptomatic Distal Radio Ulnar Joint (DRUJ) instability usually have symptoms related to dorsal displacement of the distal ulna. Many soft-tissue techniques have been proposed to stabilize the DRUJ and the unstable distal ulna. Of these, anatomical reconstruction of the distal radioulnar ligaments provides greater stability and pain free motion. We are presenting a case of chronic DRUJ instability in a 19 year old female treated with anatomical reconstruction of DRUJ ligaments using palmaris longus tendon graft. Gentle mobilization was started after 6 weeks post operatively. After 6 months of physiotherapy the patient achieved painless  forearm rotation (60 degree supination and 70 degree              pronation) and is now working comfortably.
