RAJU KAKARLAPUDI SVAS

Abstract

Dengue infection is a very common infectious disease encountered in day to day clinical setting. The need for having the knowledge of a the varied spectrum of the  presentation of the disease is very much necessary.   Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) syndrome in Dengue infection is a rare entity. HLH is a life threatening florid activation of macrophages of the lymphoreticular   system. The symptoms are due to a cytokine storm. The  activation and subsequent uncontrolled, non-malignant  proliferation of T-lymphocytes and macrophages leads to this clinical condition which is associated with high rates of    mortality. High index of suspicion and early intervention are keys to a better outcome. We herewith report a five years old girl child with severe dengue infection with HLH
