Bullous Systemic Lupus Erythematosus as an Initial Manifestation of SLE in a child

SHWETHA ANN PHILIP

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a  multiorgan autoimmune disease of unknown etiology with many clinical manifestations. The skin is involved in up to 85 percentage of SLE cases and is variably affected by the  disease. Bullous SLE (BSLE) is a rare manifestation of SLE characterized histologically by subepidermal bullae with          predominantly neutrophil infiltrate and immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA, IgM) and C3 deposition at the basement membrane zone. It is often associated with autoimmunity to type VII  collagen. We report an 11 year old boy who presented with bullous SLE and lupus nephritis.
