An unusual case of painful jaw swelling in an adolescent boy

Abstract


12 year old boy presented with progressive   swelling of right lower jaw associated with pain and right  upper thigh swelling for 15 days. Biopsy of thighswelling   revealedhigh grade Burkitts Lymphoma. Epstein Barr virus serology was negative. He developed renal failure and underwentdialysis after which he was started on oral             multiagent chemotherapy. Sporadic form of Burkittslymphoma which is unrelated to EBV infection is rare and should be considered in any child with unexplained jaw  swelling and fever.
