Isolated Pancreatic transection following blunt trauma

VEERAPPAN R

Abstract

Pancreatic transection following blunt trauma is uncommon and occurs as a consequence of high impact blunt abdominal injuries. Isolated pancreatic injury is rare. Vague presentation delays diagnosis resulting in high morbidity and mortality. 17 year old male with blunt trauma abdomen,  presented 24 hours later with isolated pancreatic transection. Distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy was done and outcome was good without any complications. High degree of clinical suspicion is crucial for timely diagnosis and CECT abdomen should be done in suspected cases.
