SUPRA-ACETABULAR OSTEOMYELITIS IN AN ADULT - A CASE REPORT

KATHIR JOYSON DR

Abstract

Osteomyelitis of the pelvis is an uncommon  condition. Osteomyelitis of the pelvis, more commonly occurs in children and adolescents compared to adults. Even among osteomyelitis occurring in the pelvis the most common site is the ilium. Osteomyelitis of the pelvis, being rare in otherwise normal individuals, the chance of it occurring in the  supra-acetabular region is even rarer. We report a case of idiopathic supra-acetabular osteomyelitis in an adult with no other co-morbidities. Osteomyelitis of the pelvis though uncommon, must be considered while evaluating symptoms around the pelvis. A thorough clinical examination is  extremely important and cues picked up in clinical  examination must be thoroughly investigated with imaging, as history may not be typical and blood investigations may be misleading.
