AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF ORBITAL DERMOID CYST A CASE REPORT

BIJINU MARY PHILIP

Abstract

We report a case of intraorbital dermoid cyst with acute onset of proptosis. A 17 year old boy presented to the emergency department with sudden increase in size of right eye of 20 days duration. There was history of prominence of right eye since childhood. Imaging including computed  tomography and orbital ultrasound showed well defined,  lobulated, intraconal mass not enhancing with contrast due to absence of vascularity. The differential diagnosis was either a lymphovenous malformation or a dermoid cyst. The patient underwent lateral orbitotomy with excision of the orbital mass. Histopathological examination of mass confirmed the              diagnosis of dermoid cyst.
