MALIGNANT GASTRO INTESTINAL TUMOR

Abstract


Gastro intestinal tumor is a rare mesenchymal tumor with an incidence of 0.1-3 percent . It accounts for 2-3 percent of GIT tumors .GIST arise from interestial cell of Cajal which is known as pacemaker cell of gastro intestinal tract .We report a case of Malignant gastrointestinal tumor . A 42 year old female presented with abdominal distension and early satiety , CT scan and MRI abdomen revealed a large abdomino pelvic mass of size 21X16 cm occupying left   hypochondrium to pelvic cavity .CT guided biopsy confirmed the mass as high grade GIST . On exploratory laparotomy a huge mass occupying the retropritoneum, the mass is solid to cystic consistency and is densely adherent to the greater curvature of the stomach, tail of pancreas and spleen . partial gastrectomy with 10cm clearance proximally , splenectomy and distal pancreatectomy done . Tumor weight was 11 kg . Malignant GIST is a rare tumor , its phenomenal size make it even rarer .
