COMBINED CENTRAL RETINAL ARTERY OCCLUSION WITH CENTRAL RETINAL VEIN OCCLUSION-A CASE REPORT

SUBASHREE P

Abstract

Combined central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) is a very rare but devastating clinical presentation. We hereby report a 65  year-old hypertensive male patient who presented to our hospital with sudden, painless, loss of vision in the left eye of 10 days duration. On examination, multiple deep and  superficial retinal hemorrhages were noted, with underlying opacification of the retinal layers and a cherry-red spot in the posterior pole. Fundus fluorescein angiography showed a delay in retinal vessel filling and prolonged arteriovenous transit time, with areas of hypofluorescence and blocked  fluorescence, which confirmed the diagnosis of combined CRAO with CRVO. Echocardiographic and carotid Doppler studies could not find any source of emboli.
