Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) thrombus Risk assessment and management: Literature Review and case report

Abstract


Superior mesenteric artery thrombosis is a relatively less common emergency with serious complications. Diagnosis and treatment require an efficient, team approach involving surgery, medicine, and radiology and laboratory department. The severity of the injury directly relates to the amount of small bowel affected and time to make correct diagnosis. Here we review the SMA thrombosis with small bowel gangrene in detail with emphasis on Superior Mesenteric Artery Risk assessment and management relevant in a peripheral hospital and case presentation of a 46 year old male patient presented with acute SMA thrombosis and managed successfully surgery.
