A RARE CASE REPORT ON MALIGNANT MELANOMA OF VULVA

NIKILA P

Abstract

Melanomas occur most commonly on the skin and mucosal surfaces. Incidence of melanoma in the female  genital tract is very rare. The behaviour of the tumour is  similar to cutaneous melanomas but carries worst prognosis, because of high recurrence rate. A 55 year old, postmenopausal woman was admitted with growth in the genital region for 4 months duration. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of malignant melanoma and surgery was  proceeded with vulvectomy and bilateral inguinal node dissection.
