Abstract

Thyroglossal cyst is a congenital neck swelling

usually affecting young children but can occur at any age.

It can occur anywhere in the course of development of

thyroid gland. In rare situations, it may contain the only

functioning thyroid. Rarely carcinoma develops in the cyst.

We are presenting here a case of thyroglossal cyst

presenting late in an adult as internal and external

swelling, which came as a secondary deposits of

squamous cell carcinoma in FNAC outside and being

referred here for evaluation of primary site, and on follow

up after surgery, proven to be simple cyst. We have done

Sistrunk operation combined with excision of the

extension of cyst in vallecula and arytenoid.
